Who's More Popular Than Republicans These Days?

Yes, stealing this blatantly off of a liberal website, but it explains why the White House is so confident and has so much breathing room: As Chris Bowers writes: "A new CNN poll has found that Venezuela -- an anti-American, socialist-block forming, oil-cartel -- is now more popular than the Republican Party." Also more popular among Americans than Republicans: China and legalizing pot.

My Republican friends keep asking me when I'll take the GOP seriously again and why I've stopped writing about ticky-tak political gamesmanship and GOP consultant tricks. When they're a serious party with serious ideas, then we can talk.

"When they're a serious party with serious ideas, then we can talk."

Oh no, you did'n! (pursing lips and shaking head from side to side...) That is hysterical.

It'd be great if our discourse overall could move away from the ticky-tak political gamesmanship and consultant tricks indefinitely. No matter how popular a party is or isn't, they don't have a license to subvert their responsibilities to uphold the constitution or...say...go unchallenged while attempting to engage us in an ill-conceived, unnecessary war. And they should definitely be held accountable if their policy projections don't correspond to real outcomes.

That's the challenge of the media: re-focus attention away from the inane ramblings of the likes of Rush Limbaugh to the vital questions of whether this and future governments' policies can be judged a success--by their own standards and ours.

Must we reduce everything down to a popularity contest?

"Must we reduce everything down to a popularity contest?"

I thought that democracy IS a popularity contest.

Maybe you've heard of this thing called a Constitution. In it are enumerated these things called "checks and balances"...oh never mind...

Ambinder is partly correct about the GOP.

However, the VZ story is incredibly bogus and shows just how much of a tool Ambinder is. When asked what they think of VZ, are most people thinking of Hugo or the country's people? When asked about China, are they thinking about a vacation there, the Chinese food outlet down the block, or what? The fact that Ambinder would take an obviously hugely flawed poll at face value says a lot.

Further, Ambinder's ex-colleague MattY also discussed this; is Ambinder a member of Journ-o-list too?

The easier question now is who is NOT more popular than the republican party.

The answer will fit on one page.

Happy Earth Day

I say get rid of them all! It's time that we have a true political class that represents we the people. It has become a nightmare and we need to turn into a dream of true freedom.
We need a real party of the people, by the people! We have become not taxpayers, but unwilling servants to their thievery. And I mean that straight up.
This needs to change! We need true representation, not the corrupt government we have.
For those interested in having a true choice, go to goooh.com
Thats the answer for the times.

Pardon me while I laugh at the pure idealism and pie-in-the-sky-ness contained within your comment. See, your problem is that you think that by creating a new government, or severely reforming the current one, we can get a better government. Whereas I, the cynical cleverclog history major that I am, severely doubt the ability of human institutions to rise above the human limitations of their founders. You see, it's much easier to get along in life if you stop pretending that things could be better.

I was a former member of the young republicans in illinois. I was a
yr treasuer in palos township, repub judge and I attended the g.o.p.
yr convention in the year 90? in chicago as yr rep. also
campaign finance manager for rep. election for ilinois state rep.

I found the republican party loaded with freaks and lunatiks.
neo-nazi, white sup-klu-klux-klan types. liberty lunies. ect.
religious no nothings. the uneducated.

The should of abolished the party along time ago.
I will be happy when the g.o.p no longer exists
