Metaphor Watch: The Finger

I wonder whether this unsubtle allusion will enter the health reform lexicon this go-round. The finger is a little much, though, right? Iconography watchers: is NR trying to say something about masculinity here?

It looks to me like they are acknowledging the life-saving importance of accepting Dr. Obama's universal healthcare prescription, despite the short-term discomfort.

Win!

In today's NYT David Brooks writes about Obama's natural dignity. I don't see him giving the finger to anyone. A verbal smackdown, like he gave that clownish journalist a couple of pressers ago, the prolonged silence before responding to a questioner, that allows everyone to think what a jackass. But the finger...no. A member of some pop group, I can't remember which one, is quoted as saying Obama looks like a cardinal......it's a perfect image of him.

ottovbvs - that's not the finger they're talking about.
