In the past few days, liberal activists have started to plan their counterattack on the conservative opponents of health care reform; now, the AFL-CIO says it will get involved, too. In a memo to presidents of national and international unions, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney called on affiliate unions to launch a 30-day campaign of activism in support of health care reform--and, perhaps most significantly, to turn out union members to town-hall meetings. Part of the plan is to "organize major union participation in Congressional Town Hall meetings, both live and virtual 'Tele-Town Hall Meetings. A list of these meetings will be sent to you as soon as we receive it along with the list of approximately 50 high priority districts," the memo states.
Labor unions have traditionally provided the foot soldiers in
Democratic politics, waving signs, phone banking and turning out
votes...now they'll play in town-halls, where conservatives have been
outperforming liberals in attendance, shouting down reform and
generally dominating both the meetings and the national news coverage
of the White House's reform effort.
Liberal activists have one significant advantage over conservatives in
the race to turn out more supporters to these town-halls: they can
coordinate attendance with Democratic representatives, and they've
worked with these lawmakers before. Earlier this week, Health Care for
America Now!, a liberal coalition of which the AFL-CIO is a part,
issued its guidelines
for the new town-hall fight; the AFL-CIO's campaign, however, signifies
a targeted effort to win these battles in the swing-vote districts
conservatives have gone after.

Chris..would you call this.....astro-proofing?
lawls
Yea! The Calvary! Hope the Teamsters are on standby. It is rough out there.
Well, looks like the dems are setting there acorn-seiu-afl-cio machine into action...you know the " MOB " that harrassed the banks into bad loans, the ones that committed voter registration fraud in the 2008 election...at the direction of the " great community organiser " hussien obama. They think they will be able to intimidate the grass roots movement happening all over america.." THE SLEEPING GIANT HAS AWAKENED " no attempt at intimidation will work...the genie is out of the bottle...the gall of the dems talking about the sinister formation of opposition to HR3200 considering the organised " MOB " that got obama elected thru lies , deception , and intimidation and fraud...The american people " THE SILENT MAJORIETY " is mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore... BEWARE MR. OBAMA AND MRS. PELOSI...YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED.
I think the silent majority spoke loud and clear in November for Barack Obama. The angry right-wing fringe has never accepted it and so tries to use his middle name against him, or suggest that he was born in Kenya, or that he is a communist-nazi or something deranged. Your side lost and is sinking into irrelevance. There are real concerns about the health care bills, but unfortunately for you, members of Congress aren't hearing them. Instead, they are hearing far-right teabagger mutants who take their cues from Michelle Malkin and Glenn Beck.

Conservatives have already succeeded in what they set out to do here: polarize and dumb-down the debate.
They're not trying to win (they can't). Just stop progress.
That being said, a strong Democratic leadership could still pull through a bill that passes. Pelosi can do this on her end; Reid, not exactly. And there lies the GOP's greatest asset.
One other "significant advantage" union members have over the Rent-A-Mobs: We say what we actually think. We are not being paid to shout down debate.
Last spring at the start of Tea Party Season, the GOP made a decision to attempt a force-amplification strategy by spreading the false meme that the teaparties were "bipartisan".
Now the force-amplification strategy of astroturfing townhalls is being met with astro-proofing in the ground game.
Obama is playing tit-for-tat.
It is an unbeatable strategy.
;)
There's been a lot of cheerleading by liberals about how pro-reform groups are rallying the troops to attend congressional recess town halls and the like. Great. But isn't everyone overlooking a basic problem--that the pro-reform side can't agree on what reform should actually look like? Such as, which of the three or four reform bills to support? Lots of pro-reform people that will attend these meetings want single payer, but none of the reform bills do that. Lots of liberals want a public option, but the House versions are weak on that, and the Senate Finance bill has regional co-ops. How about ways to pay for reform? Many liberals want to tax employer-provided benefits, but most unions oppose that.
The liberal groups may have an organizational advantage. But the opponents of reform have a better one--they oppose reform, period. They're all on the same page.
"rent-a-mobs" you guys are laughable.
I'm a soccer mom, and my friends, Democrat and Republican are opposed to this legislation. The ones who voted for Obama are not getting the reform they hoped for. The farther the White House takes this, including union thugs, the more they are losing our support. Keep the intimidation coming; you are uniting the opposition. It is angering intelligent, degreed women that arrogant Congressional leaders who are women are so disrespectful of us. It is as though they think we can not use the internet, research, and come to an informed decision. We do this every day at our jobs. We're not less intelligent or capable than they are -- and we're angry.
I may have sat out the "sit-in" at the student union in 1973 to get my paper written, but this is one opportunity to voice my opinion that is worth the effort. We don't need ABC, NBC, or talk radio to tell us what to think, we're capable of making our mind up on our own. We aren't the community that the national media, community organizers or the Democrat Party thinks we are -- and that is our strength. No one is paying us to be involved, no one has to, because this is our life that is being impacted, and we fully realize it.
We don't need a community organizer to analyze our dissatisfaction and help us articulate our grievance so we can confront the monolithic "system." "The system" doesn't intimidate us, and neither does Congress. We're aren't the weakened inner-city constituency accustomed to government services -- we're entrepreneurs in life. We are women who have filed the paperwork for our own divorce, made informed decisions about health treatment options, researched the car we buy, the windows we replace, and how to get what our families need from any government agency and our local school district. We've been empowered for a long time. We aren't who you think we are.
Send in those union members. Our network will spread the truth on the internet, with pictures and texting far and wide to women, our friends, relatives and co-workers. When they see it is us exercising our free speech and free assembly, they will know who the liars are.
Cheers to all you communis!
"I thought, "This is crazy". Despite numerous attempts to convince myself that what I was feeling was absurd, the tingle in my stomach persisted. Black conservative, Kenneth Gladney was beaten by SEIU (Service Employee International Union) thugs for selling buttons at a Town Hall meeting in St Louis.
Gladney's beating included racial slurs. He spent two days in the emergency room.
President Obama gave marching orders to union thugs, ACORN and his followers to "push back harder" and "get in the faces" of American citizens who oppose his Health Care bill."
Not a real news.....
Buried in a cyber space....

How do we know Mr. Gladney was beaten by a union thug ? Was the person(s) who beat him wearing a union uniform and/or identify themselves as a union member ? If so, Mr. Gladney needs to file a lawsuit against both the individual thug(s) AND against the union too. Don't file the suit just against the individuals or just against the union. File it against both of them so that one of them will rat out the other to save their hide and assure a judgement against the one who doesn't go the rat out route. If others have been assaulted by union thugs, then maybe a class action lawsuit is in order because you only need 3 injured parties to file (Assuming all three have the same charge and were injured by the same party). If enough of these lawsuits get filed, several things are going to happen. 1) Some of these thugs are going to be a little more careful. 2) The corrupt media will be less likely to bury what is going on. 3) Some of these unions will see to it that violence won't be tolerated. 4) The truth about what is going on at these meetings can reach the American people. Even though many of us are not real "up" on politics and some of these debates, most of us want and can tell right and wrong and we want what's best for this country instead of what one or the other group of politicians want.
I hate to see a bunch of people claim things and do nothing more. I hate to see two diametrically opposed viewpoints both being offered as "The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" when everyone knows both viewpoints can't be what they claim. Let Mr. Gladney take this to court and let's see what the real truth is.
