From The American Spectator's Matthew Vadum, on the creation of a national day of service on 9/11, which occurred in April when Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act:
The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.
Well, that's one way to look at it. The idea is that the White House wants to take away 9/11's GOP-helping power and turn it into something more community-organizing friendly, which, we all know, is radical--that 9/11 will turn into Earth Day, a platform to show concern for the environment--or that a positive activity like national service trivializes and obfuscates the true meaning of the day. Other conservatives who share this sentiment about the White House's desecration plans: Michelle Malkin, Gateway Pundit, and Melissa Clouthier at Right Wing News, who does point out that: "September 11, 2001 was not a good day just as December 7, 1941 was not a good day."

Yes. We all know that 9/11 is actually about the RNC flogging official photos of Bush in AF1 on said day so they can raise a buck or two. And any political party that houses Rudy doesn't have much room to be carping about exploitation of tragedy. He's built his career on it.
Hey!!! Does anyone in your office know the difference between the American Spectator and the American Prospect? Hello!!!
Yikes I thought the American Prospect flipped on me. Fix it, Marc!
It's a good thing this post was fixed in time! Otherwise, the Atlantic's servers would have crashed due to comments by TAPPED's dozens of readers.
Meanwhile, yes, "community-organizing" does indeed have a radical component when it's pushed by those on the left. The split isn't just GOP/Dem; it's a way to mainstream far-left concepts. For just one example (pre-dating BHO), see this.
Does Vadum mean what he says, or is he just using any pretext whatsoever for another trip to the GOP-outrage fainting couch? I wonder.
Actually, I don't.
Forget about serving our communities on Sept 11th. We all know the only true way to defeat the terrorists is to just go shopping.
Bush already changed the name of 9/11 to "Patriots' Day."
Did anyone tell him that April 19 has been "Patriots' Day" for a couple hundred years?
Let's organize Patriots Rallies at all the Democrats' communist bread-line events. We'll show up with our rifles (no, not AKs -- that's what the commies use) and scare the pinkos away. Nothing better than some silly Democratic congressmen doing an event all by their lonesomes. Let's get Bill, Sean and Glenn on board and squash the lefties' attempt to hijack OUR sacred holiday!
We own 9/11, not you!
Here we go again....those repubs. are reaching again.
We own 9/11, not you!
Yeah they can have it....had they and their Chief read the memos that says "BIn Laden trying to use planes to strike USA"..we would not have a 9/11.
So for all I care they can own it.
