Some congressional Democrats want to cancel your health insurance and put you on Medicare, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser warned supporters today in a fundraising e-mail, adding that Democrats have redoubled their health care efforts in memory of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. This, of course, is not part of the health reform initiative being undertaken by President Obama, nor is it under serious consideration by Democratic leaders. The reference is to Democrats who support a single-payer system (many of whom have been disappointed by Obama's initiative)--specifically, according to a Michigan GOP spokeswoman, to a proposal by Rep. John Conyers (MI) for national single-payer coverage.
"Some Democrats in Congress, including members from Michigan, are
trying to pass laws to cancel your private health insurance and put
your family on Medicare," Weiser wrote.
"In the past six weeks
you have helped us kill ObamaCare and protect the health of American
families. But the liberal elites who run the Democrat Party are back at
it again. They've retooled their approach and are strengthening their
voice in memory of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. They are determined,"
Weiser wrote.
Single-payer health care is not really on the table at this point; its chances are between none and none. Some Republicans have feared--and,
notably, some liberals have hoped--however, that the government-run health
insurance plan Obama has suggested would effectively crowd out private
insurers entirely...that the public option's lower payment rates and other
advantages would leave private insurers unable to compete and drive the country to a single-payer system.
Here's the full e-mail:
Dear Friends:
Some Democrats in Congress, including members from Michigan, are trying to pass laws to cancel your private health insurance and put your family on Medicare.
This is not a scare tactic; it's the truth.
We Republicans are fighting for a more hopeful approach. We support letting families make their own choices about health care and keeping the massive federal government's role as limited as possible. Every dollar you give today will help us continue to spread our message of a better approach for all.
"The Democrats have presented very false choices to the American people..," said Congressman Mike Rogers. "I believe we can do better. The American people deserve real bipartisan health care reform that will lower costs and keep the federal government out of personal health care decisions."
Click here to hear the other damaging and life threatening options Obama and Pelosi are offering. You can donate today to send a message back to Congressman Rogers and the other members of our Congressional Delegation and tell them what you think!

The threat to your families health care is not just in Washington, D.C.
Michigan's Lieutenant Governor John Cherry recently said in a townhall meeting state government should provide a system of health care for all. Cherry also encouraged a group of leftwing activists earlier this year to hit the streets promoting his vision of a government take-over of family health care.
Barack Obama and John Cherry...they have one thing in common. They want state and national bureaucrats to dictate your health care options, choices and quality of care. Simply put, they have really bad and dangerous ideas.
Whatever they call it - ObamaCare or CherryCare - it will harm Michigan's hard-working families.
We need your help to beat them.
Lend your voice to the silent majority. We're making our voice heard, but it can't stop now. We must continue to spread our message. By donating today you can help us do just that and help stop the harmful power-grab Democrats are pursing in Lansing and Washington, D.C.
Sincerely,
Ron Weiser
P.S. Making a donation today will help us organize and bring a hopeful message supporting the liberty-based approach to health care that protects American families and keeps healthcare decisions our own and not governments.

These money-grabbing e-mails by GOP officials has shown how gullible most Americans are. It is insulting that these lies and fear-mongering is been believed by some people. I now consider us the DUMBEST people in the world to believe this. I have no more faith in the system and if we will be subjected to such snake oil tactics, then I would not even entertain these moronic pieces. http://www.mydochub.com
Well sadly, here in Texas my mother was recently told that her employer will cancel their insurance if there is a public option made available. So whether or not the Michigan Democrats explicitly write in a clause to strip you of your private insurance, your employer may very well do it for them. A public option is ripe for precisely this kind of abuse. What we need is the ability to purchase insurance across state lines, and better yet purchase insurance from self insured companies too. Insurance companies need to be required to include everyone they cover as their one and only pool on which they can set rates. And insurance companies must be prohibited from denying coverage or care. When the rates for any company go up people must have a right to buy the same coverage from the company with the lower rates. No exceptions. We also need cafeteria style plans to pick and choose what we want covered. I personally want all routine and preventative care covered for myself and my family, with a hefty discount for catastrophic coverage after a reasonable deductible.
Steve,
Who told your mother in Texas that her employer will cancel her insurance if there is a public option? Glenn Beck?
Re: Well sadly, here in Texas my mother was recently told that her employer will cancel their insurance if there is a public option made available.
Why doesn't he cancel it right now? If this reform passes he'll pay an 8% payroll tax if he doesn't insure his workers. Right now he can cancel out and pay nothing so his incentive to do so is greater. Since he hasn't done this, I'm betting the creep is lying through his teeth for purely political reasons, to scare his workers. Reason no. 975 to bring back the pillory. And by the way, uninsured people do NOT have to go on the public plan. They can obtain group-rated private health isnurance through the proposed health insurance exchange (which has nothing to do with the public plan). So even if every employer in the country did cancel its health benefits, no one would be forced to go on the public plan.
Re: What we need is the ability to purchase insurance across state lines, and better yet purchase insurance from self insured companies too.
Have you been paying attention? The health insurance exchange will give you a chance to purchase insurance plans from multiple companies, none of which will be able to reject you or charge you extreme rates-- what the hell is wrong with choice like that? Meanwhile, I have no idea what you nean by "self-insured companies".Buisnesses may "self-insure" their workers (meaning they set asde a pool of their own money for routine medical claims, purchase insurance for high-dollar losses, and hire an administrator to take care of the paperwork). But you have to work for such an employer for that. You can't just show up on the HR doorstep of the Acme Widget Company and say "I hear you self insure. Can I join your healthplan even though I don't work for you?"
Re: Insurance companies need to be required to include everyone they cover as their one and only pool on which they can set rates.
Again, have you been paying attention? That's the very centerpiece of this reform!
Chris, this is a really good post. It's information I haven't seen elsewhere, you take an analytical stand, and you help to reveal truth. Well done.
Really?
I'll be able to get rid of my crappy insurance and get on Medicare?
Awesome....
Nice post.
The more I think about stuff like this, the more it seems like the way Republicans conduct themselves during this health-care effort is somewhat liberating for the Democrats. I mean, if the Republicans are going to lie and spew nonsense regardless of what the Democrats do then Democrats in marginal districts should feel no need to alienate more liberal supporters by seeking a compromise that certain people will just never accept.
Senators like Blanche Lincoln and Evan Bayh have to determine what group of voters in their respective states will not vote for them if they do vote for robust health-care reform and climate change legislation but who will feel comfortable voting for them if they stall or vote against these initatives. I have a hunch this demographic does not exist and if does it is not large enough to risk losing the money and energy from the left.
The Republicans are going to yell "government takeover" "socialism" and "big spender" no matter what Democrats do. It's time to recognize this reality and get on with the business of governing instead of listening to the screaming from the backseat. The crazy driving it's causing is what's getting us into some trouble right now.
I don't agree Mr.Mcihigan,i don't think that it is right decision
