A New Term: Scozzafavaed

In the wake of New York's tumultuous 23rd district special election, a political neologism has arisen: "Scozzafavaed."

It started popping up on blogs this week after Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava was forced out of the race by low polling numbers and a growing campaign by conservatives to paint her as too liberal.

The gist, basically, is that if you're a moderate Republican and the conservative wing of the GOP sets out to get you, and does, you got Scozzafavaed.

Now it's made its way onto Urban Dictionary

Funny how I would have thought the definition of "scozzafavaed" would be:
1. To (as a machine-endorsed Republican) run to the left of the Democratic candidate on every major issue and be endorsed by the Daily Kos
2. To call the police on a reporter who asks inconvenient questions
3. To have a hissy fit when you're trailing in the polls against a Conservative, drop out of the race, show your true colors and endorse the Democrat.
4. To be described as a "moderate" by an approving press

The definition of "scozzafavaed" described by Chris Good I think could better be used to define "liebermanied".

Agree with Mystified. Ms. Scozzafava is a liberal, not a moderate. For example, she's pro-choice, pro-card check, etc.

What does it take for the liberal press to call someone a liberal??

Wow, mystied/Elmer_Stoup, I'd say you're both off the reservation. Enjoy your 40 years in the wildnerness.

At least they'll be very, very pure in the wilderness.

Fascinating that scozzafavaing is seen as a brilliant tactic, like sending rock salt to Snowe's office in Maine, despite the fact that the only people to benefit from the scozzafavaing were Democrats. (And sane moderate voters in NY 23, of course.) With genius like this the Dems will clearly stand no chance in 2010.
